Shelter Scotland responds to CML: Scottish Government's Decision Not to Introduce Legislation to Counter Effects of RBS V Wilson |
Gordon MacRae, Head of Communications and Policy at Shelter Scotland, says:
"Whether the Scottish Government has or hasn't acted to change the legislation regarding the requirement of lenders to serve calling up notices is neither here nor there as it will have little impact in the long-term.
"In the short-term however, our primary concern is whether the legal services and advice and support agencies are ready - as Shelter Scotland is - to deal with the consequences of a fresh wave of repossessions hitting the courts.
"People need to understand their rights and have access to independent guidance and support. Anyone struggling with their mortgage or facing repossession should get advice as soon as possible. Our free national helpline on 0808 800 4444 and online advice at www.shelter.org.uk can provide that help."
